Neuroendocrine Regulation of Reproduction in Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax)

Abstract

The European sea bass, Dicentrarchus Labrax, represents one of the most important species for marine aquaculture in Europe. The sea bass industry has strongly grown in the last decade, peaking at nearly 145,000 tonnes of total production in 2011 (FAO, 2009-2012). This remarkable production has been possible thanks to the large economical investments in the sector and the application of the scientifi c knowledge acquired on the biology of the reproduction, nutrition and growth of this species (for review see Scapigliati et al. 2002, Piferrer et al. 2005, Chistiakov et al. 2007, Carrillo et al. 2009).
