Pomegranate Peel Powder as a Green Eco-Friendly Corrosion Inhibitor for Steel rebar’s Embedded in Cement Paste

Résumé

Pomegranate Peel Powder (PPP) was used as a low-cost natural inhibitor of corrosion of the steel rebar embedded in cement paste. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods were used to evaluate its inhibition efficiency. The results revealed that PPP acts as a corrosion inhibitor. The performance of the electrochemical impedance spectra over time revealed that the PPP extract forms a barrier which prevents the penetration of chloride ions. Actually, this plant extract delays the diffusion of these aggressive ions. The inhibition action was mainly linked to the adsorption of the bioactive phenolic compounds present in the extract solution, on the steel rebar’s surface. © 2021, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
