Long-term Zika virus infection of non-sperm cells in semen

Résumé

Zika virus is a mosquito-borne terato-genic virus that was unexpectedly found to persist in semen. Viral RNA has been detected up to 414 days after symptom onset1 and infectious virus rescued up to 69 days after symptom onset.2 During the last outbreak in 2015–16, sexual transmission of the Zika virus was reported in over 14 countries outside the epidemic zone.
