UTD Human Body Models Comparison based on dual Motion Capture and Radio Measurements
Abstract
Nowadays, human body influence on communication channels attracts a lot of interest, especially for Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) and future fifth-generation (5G) communications systems. For this last application, Human Body Shadowing (HBS) will be one of the major causes of Non Line of Sight (NLoS) because of the use of millimeter waves (mmWaves). Thus, an accurate modeling of human body impact on wireless communications seems paramount. In this paper, the proposed deterministic model, based on Ray-Tracing (RT) and Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD), uses different human body models based on circular cylinder(s) and/or sphere. For the models comparison, the study accounts for an unprecedented measurement campaign based on both Motion Capture (MoCap) and radio systems working at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. © 2019 IEEE.
