Landscape as a complex system to study interactions between human beings and environment: coupling local knowledge and remote sensing to highlight landscape structure and dynamics

Christophe Demichelis

Résumé

This paper presents the conceptual framework, methodology, and initial results of a doctoral research on the landscape dynamics and structure of a forest - savannah mosaic in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The results are based on an original methodology combining local knowledge and remote sensing to provide a multidimensional analysis of the landscape based on land cover, land units and land use.
