These issues will beaddressed here via two complementary studies, one on breeding mares, the otheron working horses, both involving large samples of animals living in the sameconditions and with limited genetic variability (one breed in each case). Thesestudies reveal 1) a clear relation between reproductive success and theoccurrence of stereotypies (lower conception rates in stereotypic mares), and arelation between reproductive status (barren, maiden or with foal) and theoccurrence and type of stereotypies; 2) relations between cognitive performanceand stereotypies (lower learning in stereotypic horses), and between the type ofwork usually performed and the occurrence and types of stereotypies performedwhen animals were stabled. The types of stereotypies observed also differedgreatly between these two studies. These datasets raise further lines ofdiscussion on the physiological, emotional and motor correlates of theseabnormal behaviours. %G English %L hal-01355905 %U https://univ-rennes.hal.science/hal-01355905 %~ UNIV-RENNES1 %~ CNRS %~ ETHOS %~ ETHOS-ICDC %~ ETHOS-PEGASE %~ COMUE-NORMANDIE %~ UR1-UFR-SVE %~ UR1-HAL %~ UR1-SDV %~ TEST-UNIV-RENNES %~ TEST-UR-CSS %~ UNIV-RENNES %~ UNICAEN %~ UR1-BIO-SA %~ ETHOS-CIRCE
