We investigated the existence of a laterality in the expressionof courtship behaviors in 25 male Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica), observedduring head-to-head confrontations with a stuffed female. Around 42 % of tested males werelateralized for three behavioral units: side display, tiptoe walking and courtship feeding. Moreover, males kept the same bias for different behaviors and along the different repetitions. At the group level, males preferentially showed their left side to the female in their sidedisplays. This result reflects preference in using the left visual field in sexual context. Ourdata confirm previous results on, in other species of bird. These results supported thehypothesis highlighting the importance of the visual field on the expression of a sidepreference during the sexual display. %G English %L hal-01355767 %U https://univ-rennes.hal.science/hal-01355767 %~ UNIV-RENNES1 %~ CNRS %~ ETHOS %~ ETHOS-ICDC %~ ETHOS-COCORESO %~ COMUE-NORMANDIE %~ UR1-UFR-SVE %~ UR1-HAL %~ UR1-SDV %~ ETHOS-DEEP %~ TEST-UNIV-RENNES %~ TEST-UR-CSS %~ UNIV-RENNES %~ UNICAEN %~ UR1-BIO-SA %~ ETHOS-CIRCE
