Comparative Analysis of Conjugated Alkynyl Chromophore-Triazacyclononane Ligands for Sensitized Emission of Europium and Terbium

Résumé

Eu and Tb complexes based on a functionalized triazacyclononane carboxylate or phosphinate macrocyclic ligand is described. The influence of the anionic group, i.e., carboxylate, methylphosphinate, or phenylphosphinate, on the photophys. properties was studied and rationalized from DFT calcd. structures. The nature, no., and position of electron-donating or electron-withdrawing aryl substituents were varied systematically within the same phenylethynyl scaffold to optimize the brightness of the corresponding Eu complexes and study their two-photon absorption properties. Finally, the Eu complexes were examd. in cell-imaging applications, and selected Tb complexes were studied as potential O sensors.
